Colonial Pride Challenge

The Shrewsbury Volleyball Program values academics, commitment, and pride. To strengthen bonds across Varsity, JV, and Freshmen, all players are drafted into one of four mixed-level groups. Groups earn points for tangible, trackable achievements beyond their normal team responsibilities. Items are submitted via Google Form. Coaches will also nominate a Practice Player of the Week, worth 25 points. At the end of the season, the group with the most points will be crowned the Colonial Pride Champions. Group Prize TBD.

These groups will support each other throughout the season and sit together at pasta parties each week, getting to know one another.

Point Categories

1. Academics (Google Form submission)

•  15 pts – A on a test, quiz, or project (screenshot required)

•  10 pts – B on a test, quiz, or project (screenshot required)

2. Program & School Pride (Google Form submission)

•  15 pts – Attending another SHS sporting event (non-volleyball) in program gear (with uploaded image)

•  15 pts – Volunteering in a school or community event while representing SHS Volleyball (with accompanying image or teacher verification)

How It Works

1. Groups

At the start of the season, all players will be drafted by the captains into one of four mixed-level groups (Varsity, JV, Freshmen combined). Each group is balanced with players from all levels to encourage friendships, mentorship, and shared pride across the program. Groups will compete all season long for the Colonial Pride Cup.

2. Earning Points & Google Form Submissions

Players earn points by completing trackable achievements in two categories: Academics and Program & School Pride. These achievements are self-reported each week using the program’s Google Form, with proof such as a screenshot/photo of a grade, teacher confirmation, or a picture from an event. In addition, coaches will select one Practice Player of the Week, worth 25 points for that player’s group, announced at each pasta party. 

3. Verification

Coaches verify all attendance-based items (practice, games, helping other teams). Captains may help check items such as group gear at events or community representation. Google Form entries are reviewed weekly. If proof is missing or unclear, points may not be awarded.

4. Scoreboard Updates

Coaches will post updated group standings each week on the program board/Group Chat. Standings will include weekly totals and season totals so groups can track their progress. A little competition is encouraged — groups should work together to earn more points!

5. End-of-Season Champions

The challenge runs from the first week of the season through the last week of play. At the end of the season, the group with the highest total points will win the Colonial Pride Cup. The winning group will also receive a special reward (e.g., team pizza party, custom shirts, championship banner, or trophy). Most importantly, their victory will be recorded in program history as the Colonial Pride Champions.
